5 – How an Apple a Day Didn’t Keep Anything Away

Let’s get one thing straight: my family still eats fruit. They love it. I still buy it. I still serve it. I even cut it up like a Pinterest mom when I’m feeling generous. But me? I don’t eat it anymore.

And people always ask me, “Why? It’s fruit! It’s healthy!”

Well, here’s the short version: just because something has a good reputation doesn’t mean it works for you body. And just because it’s “natural” doesn’t mean it’s harmless.

Let’s start with the blood sugar rollercoaster. Even a “healthy” banana sends my energy and focus into chaos. I go from zen to zombie in 20 minutes. Add to that the fact that some fruits are basically sugar bombs dressed in wellness branding, and… yeah. No thanks.

Then there’s the not-so-fun part: pesticides. Most fruit, especially the shiny supermarket kind, is sprayed, waxed, and stored for months. That apple you’re eating? It might be older than your toddler. And don’t even get me started on those wax coatings. They make the apples shine, yes, but I prefer not to eat produce that’s been polished like a bowling ball.

Meanwhile, red meat is demonized like it’s trying to kill us all. Spoiler: if red meat was as dangerous as headlines say, I’d be long gone. Instead, I’m thriving. Go figure.

So no, I’m not anti-fruit. I’m just pro-me. My body, my brain, my rules.

And when my kids ask, “Mom, why don’t you eat fruit?” I tell them the truth: “Because it doesn’t make me feel good. And I like feeling good more than I like mango.”

No drama. No doctrine. Just honesty.
